Description
Breathing Among Flowers. Oil and acrylic on linen. 100 x 100 cm. 2026
In this painting, the face appears surrounded by a dense accumulation of cobalt flowers that fill the space until they partially cover the eyes, mouth, and skin.
The hands rest against the face, opening small gaps between the flowers, as if the gesture were trying to maintain a personal space within something that occupies everything. There is no violence in the movement, but rather a mixture of contact, pressure, and adaptation to the environment surrounding the figure.
The flowers cease to function as decorative elements and instead become physical matter. They do not accompany the figure from the outside but adhere to it, pressing against the skin and transforming the face into a shared space between body and form.
The painting is constructed through fragmented planes of color, organized from an initial base made with acrylic markers and a fluorescent acrylic underpainting. These early layers establish intense areas of color that are later integrated with oil paint. The dominant blue generates an enveloping atmosphere that contrasts with the warmer tones of the face and mouth.
This work belongs to a broader line of exploration focused on accumulation and the physical presence of elements upon the body, where the face becomes a site of contact between the figure and what surrounds it.
