The house where I grew up had beautiful hydraulic tiles, but they easily came loose. I remember many weekends spent helping my beloved father pull up the tiles, one by one. We cleaned off the old cement, chipped away at the floor, and then re-cemented everything to place and level the pieces again. It was a repetitive task, but one that brought me closer to my father.
As I created this piece, I found myself recalling those days—my father’s patient hands at work, and how those moments became imprinted in me, just like the tiles we carefully restored together. This floor, though made of the same material from my childhood, has transformed in my work into a symbol of memories and the bonds we build—piece by piece, tended to and repaired with care, like the hydraulic tiles themselves.
