SMALL BEAUTIES

These drawings are not a series conceived as such. They are images that stay with me along the way. Sometimes they are not images for a painting. Not because they don’t work, but because they don’t ask for oil, watercolor, or large formats. They ask for something else.
In my previous series Everything Ends in Flowers I already made a couple of graphite drawings that I liked a lot, and that is where the idea of making these nine ink pieces comes from.
There is also something about going back. To a very early stage of training, almost pre-university, when I learned hatching following form and volume from a high school teacher to whom I owe dedicating myself to what I do today. That gesture has stayed in my hand, even as the years pass.
They are small, direct pieces. Drawings made without the intention of becoming anything else, but worked with the same care and the same attention as a larger work.
